Sand control screens QC: fra produksjonslinje til brønnbunn.

Sand control screen failure is rare but always expensive. A defective slot costs weeks of well downtime and millions in workover. CTRL+ optical metrology turns sand control QC from sample-based paper certificates into 100 % slot-by-slot verifiable inspection — at the production line and at incoming-audit reception.

Two deployments

Line-side QC and incoming-audit QC — same instrument, same certificate.

Line-side QC at the production line

  • Inline inspection with no lab-bench bottleneck
  • Issue ISO 17824 / API 19SS conformity certificates with full slot data
  • Reduce post-shipment dispute rate by exporting traceable per-slot CSVs
  • Inspect wire wrap, direct wrap and wedge wire filter screens on the same line

Incoming-audit QC at yard reception

  • Audit sand control screens at receiving yards before deployment
  • Reject below-spec batches BEFORE downhole installation
  • Document chain of custody as a QC file
  • Catch wire wrap drift, slot edge defects and obstructions in minutes
Method

The CTRL+ inspection method for sand control screens

Each sand control screen is scanned end to end with an optical head — no contact, no operator-induced drift. Every slot is captured at 5-15 µm resolution. The instrument computes per-slot width, axial drift across the joint, edge defects and obstructions. A statistical distribution is built (D50, D90, σ) and compared to the screen spec. The result is exported as a PDF certificate aligned with ISO 17824 and a machine-readable CSV that operators integrate into their QC file.

Coverage

Sand control screens we cover

Wire wrap screens

Direct wrap and wire wrap sand control screens. The reference geometry for ISO 17824 acceptance.

Wedge wire filter screens

Wedge wire profile screens with V-shape drainage geometry. CTRL+ measures the slot aperture and the wire profile depth.

Pre-pack screens

Pre-packed sand control screens with gravel-filled annulus. CTRL+ inspects the outer slot layer and inner base pipe.

Slotted liners

Machined slotted liners as standalone sand control. CTRL+ measures slot width, length and edge quality.

FAQ

Common questions about sand control screens QC

Does optical metrology measure slot drift on wire wrap screens?

Yes — slot width is measured every few millimeters along the joint. Axial drift trends (whether the screen tightens or loosens along its length) are flagged with statistical thresholds defined in the screen spec.

How long does a sand control screen inspection take per joint?

2 to 5 minutes per 6-12 m joint. A full horizontal completion of 60 m is inspected in under an hour. Manufacturer throughput is typically 30-60 joints per shift.

Can we audit screens at the operator's receiving yard?

Yes — bost+ and most+ are deployed both at screen production lines (line-side QC) and at operator receiving yards (incoming audit before deployment).

Is the CTRL+ certificate accepted under ISO 17824 / API 19SS?

The output PDF lists slot-by-slot dimensional results and statistical metrics aligned with ISO 17824 §6.3 and API 19SS acceptance criteria. CTRL+ certificates are designed as the QC record of acceptance under ISO 17824 §6.3 and API 19SS.

What slot ranges and screen diameters are supported?

Slot apertures from 50 µm to 1000 µm. Screen OD from 2 7/8 in to 9 5/8 in. Joint length up to 12 m per pass.
